National Adoption Awareness Month

When Kayla and I announced our decision to adopt we were absolutely blown away by the outpouring of love and support from our friends and family in Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Texas. Well, it seems that it is time to add another location onto that list; this time … Washington DC. Allow me to paste a quote from someone you all might have heard of before …

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim November 2014 as National Adoption Month.  I encourage all Americans to observe this month by answering the call to find a permanent and caring family for every child in need, and by supporting the families who care for them.

Now, how awesome is that? President Obama named November as National Adoption Month just in honor of our decision!

Okay, maybe November has been National Adoption Month for numerous years now … However, before this year I was unaware of that.

Then again, before this year I was unaware of so many things relating to adoption. It is amazing how much you can learn about something in a short period of time when it is something you are excited about and something the Lord has put on your heart. Now, I certainly do not claim to be an adoption expert. After all, I am only a few weeks into a lifelong process of adoption but I know a lot more now than I did a year ago and I know that one day I will look back on November of 2014 and say “wow, I had so much to learn back then …”

One thing I have learned is that adoption has impacted so many people around us. We have heard some many encouraging stories from people we know who have adopted family members, adopted a child, or were adopted themselves. Even this morning at church we heard a powerful testimony from a woman who was, more or less, adopted by her aunt and uncle during her young years and how that changed the direction of her life.

It seems clear that adoption is a wonderful thing that can positively impact so many lives. If you have a story of how adoption was a factor in your life please leave a comment so we can read your story! Also, please pray about how you can be involved in the adoption process. And not just our process! Check out this site! for more information on National Adoption Month and to read the full Presidential Proclamation click HERE!

On an update note … Our t-shirt fundraiser ends today and I can happily announce that we have sold 60+ shirts! You guys are awesome!
